In just three years since graduating from Cedarville University’s School of School of Pharmacy, Dr.KofiAmoahhas fully devoted himself to community health and safety. What started as a small pop-up vaccination clinic serving the underprivileged is now a thriving center providing health care for all, including the uninsured and the underserved.

Amoah, originally from Ghana before relocating to South Lebanon, Ohio, started the Sterling Rapid Response vaccine clinic shortly after graduating in May 2019 in Cincinnati. This clinic, along with its mobile COVID-19 service, provides vaccinations to those who could not make appointments electronically to walk into the clinic for their vaccinations. The mobile clinic made the vaccines accessible to the elderly and families with persons with disabilities, and in the process,Amoahintended to diminish racial, economic, and accessibility disparities in receiving the vaccination.

Now,Amoah’s business has become Sterling Community Health Center, which opened earlier this year in Springdale Ohio. This full-fledged clinic provides a wide range of vaccinations and physical examinations, including patient care with doctors' offices and examination rooms, all with the same goal of helping the uninsured and underserved.Sterling Community Health also provides home-bound services to residents in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland,Dayton, Akron, Toledo, Lima, and Youngstown.

Sterling was recently recognized by the National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit for its commitment to homebound vaccinations, winning the 2022 national immunization excellence award.

“It is not health care if it is not accessible,” saidAmoah. “Here, we stick to that mantra. The oldest lady we have vaccinated is 103 years old. We want to protect people, both old and young, who don’t have health care.”

Sterling has administered over 28,000 vaccinations since it opened in 2019, with new goals on the horizon.

“In 2023, we plan to open our very own pharmacy,” saidAmoah. “We’re taking a holistic approach to health care. Sterling Community Health Center will soon become a one-stop shop for all shots, physicals and chronic disease management.”

Amoahis joined at work by his wife, Veronica Asomani-Amoah, a 2016 graduate of Cedarville’s pharmacy program. Each day, the couple puts to practice the skills they developed as students, making a difference in both the physical and spiritual health of God’s people.
