Andrew J. Harris, PhD

Biography

Dr. Harris has been teaching in the field of communication since 2004. While his initial specialty was in the public speaking classroom (where you can still find him today), his doctoral work and teaching experiences have broadened the scope of his instruction to include professional writing, communication research methods, and the philosophy and rhetoric of narrative. He came to Cedarville in 2017 because he was drawn to the University's balance between a firm Christian faith and a rigorous intellectual environment. Dr. Harris is a passionate advocate for the success of his students, both in the classroom and in the broader theater of life. He is currently working with several students on a long-term project concerning those who live in interstitial cultures.

• Why Cedarville?:I came to Cedarville because I was impressed with the University's dedication to the cause of Christ. Since communication is not only a professional field but also a philosophical one, the questions of who we are and who God is are extremely important to teach well. Cedarville offered me a place where I could integrate the precepts of God's Word into my curriculum as a foundational text for what we say and how we say it. When I learned that there was a position open teaching in my areas of expertise, I did my best to land the job.
